The Consolation of Sunflowers

"The Consolation of Sunflowers"
24"x 36"
acrylic on gallery cradled panel

St Lawrence College is hosting an online virtual art show entitled "Wish You Were Here." I entered this large painting along with 2 mixed media pieces. Voting is requested from the public for your favourite painting(s) and is now open. Here is the link:  https://www.mariannevansilfhoutgallery.ca/

Throughout this pandemic nature has become very dear to me. I have been exploring my own backyard as I weather the Covid-19 realities. This has become a place of safety and great solace in the midst of times of isolation. Nature has given me new lenses to view and process this weird season. This painting of sunflowers, indeed, offered great consolation.

I took a break from the Isolation Series to paint some of my garden offerings. These garden flowers, along with the vegetables I've grown, have been a wonderful diversion from Covid-19 realities and isolation.

Floriated

6x12 Acrylic on cradled gallery panel
Once again green and growing things hold my creative interest. I'm on a flower role again - poppies, no less! I'm continuously thinking up new ways to capture them.

SOLD A Thing for Poppies

16x16 Acrylic on cradled panel
A recent submission to the 10th Annual Juried Exhibition held at the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery at St Lawrence College, Brockville, ON.

Lots of painting has been happening, just not a lot of uploading. I've been on a poppy kick when it comes to flowers. Inspiration has come from stunning specimens growing in my neighbourhood. Wildflowers, grasses, poppies...they make me feel creative just by looking.

Grass Flowers

Acrylic on cradled panel 16"x16"
These days I'm waiting for spring to merge into summer. It has been a long, cold, grey, and wet season to date. So it is no wonder I've turned my imagination to flowers. I want to see colour amidst the green!
Grass Flowers will be featured in an art show this wknd in Burritts Rapids, ON, along with some other new "wild" flower works. Come check it out!
June 9 6-9pm June 10 10am-5pm & June 11 10am-4pm. Burritts Rapids Community Hall.

Late Bloomers...Blue Bloomers

Late Bloomers - 6x6 acrylic on cradled panel
Currently hanging at Arts Underground, Whitehorse YT
SOLD - Blue Bloomers - 6x6 acrylic on cradled panel

A couple of last minute pieces - aptly named 'late bloomers'. Sometimes I think a show is all wrapped up and wham! -  another creation tempts my imagination. For these latest works I've been painting on gold painted panels - letting the process birth the ideas. Totally fun!

Painting Wildflowers

A Craving for Poppies
10x10 Acrylic on cradled panel

A Daisy a Day
10x10 Acrylic on cradled panel

Pass Me the Fireweed SOLD
10x10 Acrylic on cradled panel
These paintings were created for the YAS members show entitled "In the Kitchen, On the Table"
It has been a while since I've done any still life's. Creating this trio was a lot of fun, a spontaneous "let's see where this takes me" act. There's lots of shimmery gold in these pieces!
